ICELAND: Location Review

This is an extract from the in-flight magazine of Icelandic air.

I wanted to go to Iceland and see the Northern Lights, so I was going to go on the 3 hour tour flight from Liverpool. The wife had better ideas!

My mate and I booked a flight, b&b and insurance for two of us – a total cost of £627 for five days (Thursday to Monday). We had to fly out of London Heathrow as Manchester flights only started in April. From Scotland it was double the price and to arrive in the day, around 5.00ish, about £100 dearer.

Third leg: Goa

Having been travelling almost non-stop along the 400 miles of dusty, pitted roads, following the coast road from Bombay, we at last arrived in Goa to a beautiful sunset evening. We passed through the main tourist centre, which reminded me a bit of Benidorm with all the touristy outlets. To get a sea-front location, we decided to splash out on our accommodation and paid 1330 rupees (about £15.00) between us for a nice apartment about 30 metres from the Arabian Sea.

I found what I thought to be an excellent tutorial online. Called 'Creating Fabulous Black and White Photographs from your Color Images' the tutorial guides you through converting your colour images into monochrome. From personal experience, online tutorials can vary from being absolute life savers to complete time wasters. So I thought before I let you try this that I should gain some hands on experience with my own images.

The plan was hatched on the Thursday night. Ian was collecting me first at 7.50am, so I set my alarm for 7.45am, which gave me plenty of time to slap a few slices of ham on buttered bread and give this month's shower a miss in exchange for copious amounts of the babe magnet deodorant Lynx Africa. After reading the warning, "Never underestimate the power of smell", I hoped the lads would be able to control their emotions and keep their animal instincts for the models at Focus.
